Recreational Entertainment
Romans watched gladiatorial fights for entertainment. This took place in the Colosseum. The gladiators were slaves, and they could be either a man or a woman. The gladiatorial fights were very violent and bloody because the gladiators fought each other with weapons and usually fought to the death. Sometimes an animal and a gladiator fought.
Another sport the Romans watched was the chariot racing at the Circus Maximus. Chariot racing is when people riding a small vehicle with wheels pulled by horses race each other. The Circus Maximus could hold up to 200,000 people.
